New ACGME-approved, Thoracic Surgery Residency position "tracked" towards General Thoracic Surgery

The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford Hospital and Clinics is pleased to announces a new, ACGME-approved, Thoracic Surgery Residency position "tracked" towards General Thoracic Surgery. This two-year residency program will be initiated in July 2012 and is designed for graduates of Surgery training programs. The program will emphasize broad experience in all aspects of general thoracic surgery – malignant and benign -- including an emphasis on minimally invasive procedures such a VATS lobectomy/segmentectomy, minimally invasive esophagectomy, and transcervical thymectomy. Advanced techniques such as sleeve resection, tracheal resection, anterior approaches to Pancoast tumors, lung volume reduction surgery, etc. will also be learned. The 2 years will consist of approximately 12 months of General Thoracic rotations, 2 months of transplantation, and approximately 10 months of Cardiac Surgery rotations, preparing the trainee to sit for the American Board of Thoracic Surgery examination via the General Thoracic Pathway.

The position may be filled for July 1, 2012 (outside of the match) if interested, strong individuals can apply promptly, no later than Jan. 20, 2012.
